This selection of the blue-flowered Chinese Corydalis flexuosa comes from a 1988 collection by James Compton, Martyn Rix, and John Darcy. While three selections were made from this trip, we killed the others faster than Saddam killed Kurds. C. 'Pere David' however, has survived our hot humid climate since 1994. The almost invisible rosette of tiny cutleaf foliage produces 6" flowering stems, starting in mid-April and continuing for several weeks. We have found that rich, moist woodland soils are preferred. In cooler climates, it spreads nicely by underground rhizomes.
