(Syn: Aster ericoides) Symphyotrichum 'Snow Flurry' hit the perennial market like a storm in the 1980s, and after over four decades, it's still prized for its uniqueness and garden performance. Looking more like a hybrid between a heath and a groundcover Juniper, Symphyotrichum 'Snow Flurry' forms a dense, 6" tall x 4' wide, ground-hugging deciduous mat of tiny, congested leaves, and topped, starting in mid-August with a plethora of tiny white flowers. The late English gardener/nurserywoman Beth Chatto is rumored to have first introduced this in the early 1980s. Symphyotrichium 'Snow Flurry' received a 5 star rating from the Chicago Botanic Garden trials.
