Chicago Botanic Garden
One of my favorite large-scale botanic gardens, this is a must-see when you are in the windy city.

Duke Gardens
Located in Durham, NC, Duke Gardens has long been a destination garden for visitors to the Triangle region. In the last few years, an upgrade of the plantings has dramatically changed the face of this superb garden. Both the Asian Valley garden under the direction of curator Paul Jones, and the Bloomquist Native garden under the direction of curator Ed Steffek are a must-see!

Harland Hand Garden
The California garden of the late Harland Hand has been touted as one of the best designed gardens in America. The garden has been restored to its original glory through an amazing effort from current owner Marjory Harris.

J. C. Raulston Arboretum at North Carolina State University
What can I say that hasn't already been said? Founded by our friend, the late Dr. JC Raulston and now directed by Dr. Bob Lyons, the arboretum was recognized as the top botanical garden in the country in the 1990s! Don't expect a park with benches...instead, you will find an incredible collection of over 6,000 different woody plants. You will also enjoy the wonderful perennial border of Edith Eddleman and Dour Ruhren (replanted in spring 2000), and the centerpiece of All America annual trials.

Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
Despite being in the "tundra" region of the US, this garden has a remarkable plant collection and is worth the drive to visit. It also serves as registrar for the genus Hosta, so check out the hosta glade! For a membership fee, you can access the Anderson Horticulture Library Plant Finder on-line.

Missouri Botanical Garden
Not only is MOBOT a great public garden, but their research divisions are an incredible resource. Here you can access Tropicos...their nomenclature database that can find information on darn near any plant you can think of.

New York Botanical Garden
One of the most famous of America's public garden, the NYBG site is a great resource both for visitation information and access to their extensive plant records.

Peckerwood Garden Foundation
is the home garden of Yucca Do founder, and Mexican Plant explorer John Fairey of Texas. Their site gives a wonderful overview of John's work and fantastic plant collection.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
This UK Botanic garden houses one of the largest collections of both living plants and herbarium specimens. There is a wealth of information for the scientifically minded plantsman.

San Antonio Botanical Garden
A really cool (make that hot) garden in Texas that has released a number of superb perennial selections...worth a trip to Texas!

Sandhills Community College Gardens
The folks at Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines have built one of the finest public gardens in NC. The collection includes various theme gardens, including a Southwest garden, a conifer garden, a tremendous mature holly collection, and much much more...not to be missed!

The Holden Arboretum
Visit the largest arboretum in the United States, just east of Cleveland, Ohio. The prime emphasis here is a superb collection of woody plants, but there is certainly much more to see.

University of Georgia Trial Gardens/Allan Armitage
Our friend Dr. Allan Armitage of the University of Georgia conducts a series of trials on both new annuals and new perennials for their adaptability in the Southeastern US.

US National Arboretum
Your National Arboretum, located in DC is a real treasure...one of my favorites! The site details their gardens, USNA releases, and lots more...a great visit!
