Aloe boylei hails from a wide region in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it can be found growing from 2,000' to 6,000' elevation. Aloe boylei is similar to Aloe ecklonis, but has the widest leaves of all the grass aloes. Aloe boylei makes a 1' tall x 2' wide deciduous clump of 2' long fleshy green leaves, spotted white toward the base. In early summer, the clumps are topped with 18" tall spikes of lovely pendent salmon-orange flowers. Aloe boylei has proven winter hardy in our Zone 7b garden since 2005. Good winter drainage is important.
