If you like useful plants, the southeast native Yucca aloifolia is one of the classics. Whether you want to thatch your home, stab a vampire in the heart, or perform one of many self-mutilation rituals, this plant's for you. The leg-size trunk can reach 8' tall and is adorned with bayonet-like green leaves in a circle around the trunk. The lower leaves droop with age, revealing the attractive trunks and highlighting the terminal leaf clusters (heads). In early summer, the heads are topped with 3' spikes of white, bell-shaped flowers.
