Hibiscus dasycalyx is a rare endangered, but easy-to-grow mallow, native to the Neches River basin in Texas, where it is facing extinction due to habitat loss and sexual misconduct with a brood of nearby Hibiscus militaris. The narrow, 3-lobed, duck foot-like leaves are almost threadlike, creating a lovely see-through effect. In midsummer, the upper part of Hibiscus dasycalyx plant is adorned with 4" cupped white flowers with a deep reddish-purple center blotch...very easy in moist or dry sites. Our plants are cutting-grown to ensure the species remains pure.
