(aka: Hedychium Light Yellow) For years, we grew the Himalayan (Nepal, China, and India) Hedychium flavescens, only to watch freezing temperatures turn it to a pile of black plant snot before we ever saw the first flower, so we were thrilled when plantsman Alan Galloway shared his early flowering form, under the name Hedychium 'Light Yellow'. Our clump of the 2014 named Hedychium flavescens 'Sasquatch' has been in the ground here since 1999 and has never failed to flower. For us, the thick 7' tall, massive stems are adorned with huge 2' long, fuzzy, dark green leaves. The stalks are topped, starting in early October, with large flower heads of lemony fragrant, creamy white flowers...tropicalissimo at its finest.
