This recently described species (1998), from Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces in China, forms a mass of small, spiny-looking evergreen foliage...often red-mottled in spring. The clumps spread by runners at the rate of 6-8" per year. This unusual summer-flowering epimedium begins blooming in late May and continues for 1-2 months. Each 18" to 24" flower scape is draped with large 2" light yellow flowers, with up to 50 flowers per stalk. This is, without question, the most floriferous epimedium that we grow.
