This selection of the Japanese wild ginger, Asarum kumageanum is one that we named in 2000. The very large pointed glossy evergreen leaves are highlighted with silver...more solid toward the center and speckled toward the edge. If you peek under the leaves, starting in mid-October (NC), you'll enjoy the amazing fall-produced dark purple, triangular flowers. Asarum kumageanum 'Frosted Jade' is an easy and vigorous clump forming ginger...a must for the woodland garden where you want something truly special. For those who thrive on insignificant facts, "kumageanum" means "bear's hair" in Japanese...something to do with the location that it was originally found...why ask why?
