Epimedium stellulatum 'Wudang Star' is a superb selection of the Chinese fairy wing, collected by UK plantsman Roy Lancaster in 1983 on the slopes of Wudang Mountain in northwest Hubei, China. Epimedium stellulatum 'Wudang Star' makes a smaller than normal for the species tight clump that reaches only 1' tall x 2' wide. The evergreen, spiny-leaved clumps are topped with bronze new leaves in spring, each highlighted by raspberry specks. In mid-March (NC), the clumps are topped with 18" long spikes, each ending in clouds of small white flowers...although Epimedium stellulatum 'Wudang Star' has the largest flowers of this species. After flowering, the foliage ages to green with raspberry flecks.
