More Information About Teucrium

Most teucrium species are subshrubs with a woody base although the genus contains some herbaceous perennials. Their small size and neat habit makes teucrium perfect for low hedges, borders, container plants and knot gardens.

Species in the genus Teucrium are well adapted to hot summer climates and tolerate poor soils. Many species have fragrant leaves whose odor is apparent when the leaves are bruised. The leaves of some species act like catnip and make felines dizzy with delight. The leaves are also quite bitter tasting which makes it a great plant in gardens where deer and rabbits graze. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds like to visit the light purple/blue flowers.
