More Information About Stokesia

Stokesia is native to the pinewoods of the southeastern US and has gained recognition as one of the world's finest perennials. We are pleased to present several new, diverse stokesia selections that expand the species far past any forms that were previously known.

Stokesia (Stokes' Aster) Growing Conditions

In the wild, stokesia is usually blue, lilac or white and is a fairly low growing plant but newly cultivated varieties of S. laevis are yellow and magenta and place the beautiful and exotic flowers at the end of tall flower stalks.

Stokes' aster performs great in full sun to light shade, where they prefer an acidic, well-drained soil. Stokes' aster lives in boggy areas in its native environment but performs well in the garden in both moist and moderately dry beds. Stokesia is also a great butterfly plant in the summer garden.
