More Information About Schizachyrium
Schizachyrium is an incredibly widespread genus of native ornamental grasses that can be found in almost every state in the US and throughout most of Canada. Schizachyrium is so widespread because it is very flexible about its growing conditions...hot or cold, acidic soil or alkaline, etc. It is also deer-resistant which helps too. The common name bluestem refers to the color of the leaf blades. However in autumn, the foliage changes from green to russet tones of orange and brown.
