Saururus cernuus is a US native plant found in swampy bogs from Canada south to Texas and, although quite beautiful, it's a plant I wouldn't recommend for most home gardens due to its aggressive spreading tendencies. Imagine how thrilled I was to receive this much more controlled, variegated form of Saururus cernuus from our friend, naturalist Jesse Perry, that he discovered in Hertford, NC. We are pleased to make a 2014 public introduction of Saururus cernuus 'Hertford Streaker', which has made a small patch for us that so far has reached only 8" in height with very little spreading. The new foliage emerges creamy white, often with a central green flecked pattern. Because of the reduction in leaf chlorophyll, full sun will cause leaf scorch. If you have a special moist spot in the woodland garden or a tendency to overwater your container plants, Saururus 'Hertford Streaker' is for you.
