(aka: Salvia rosmarinus 'Irene') Discovered by California's Philip Johnson, this amazing selection of rosemary, also known under the improper cultivar name of Rosmarinus 'Irene', makes a prostrate mound instead of an upright shrub. Rosemary 'Renzels' is perfect for the top of a rock wall or in a container where it can spill over the sides. In three years expect a mound to 6' wide...unless you cook a lot. The evergreen clumps of this thin-leaf rosemary are topped with small light blue-lavender flowers starting for us in mid-August (NC)...a dramatic improvement over other trailing rosemaries. While most rosemary clones aren't winter hardy for us, we've never seen any damage on our clump of Irene's rosemary planted in 2002.
