We have been very impressed with Phlox pilosa 'Forest Frost'...a new selection of the American native hairy phlox from a Gail Barton and Peter Loos collection in Forest, Mississippi (Scott County). Gail and Peter were subsequently presented the Lynn Lowrey Award from the Native Plant Society of Texas for this extraordinary plant. For us, Phlox pilosa 'Forest Frost', has made a lovely 2' wide clump of upright stems clothed with light green linear leaves and topped, starting in early April (NC), with 18" tall stalks of fragrant, pure white flowers...a butterfly favorite. In our trials, Phlox 'Forest Frost' does not appear to spread rapidly like most of the other Phlox pilosa cultivars we have trialed.
