Pennisetum frutescens is another great ornamental grass from Argentina that is virtually unknown in cultivation. Our 7-year-old clump is composed of sturdy, wire-like, glaucous stems, adorned with green leaves during the growing season. The clumps top out at 7' tall adorned, starting in mid-June and continuing into September, with floral spikes ending in 10" bronzy plumes. I particularly love the architectural form in winter when the leaves drop, exposing the wild and crazy nekkid stems. Thanks to California grass guru John Greenlee for sharing.
