More Information About Malvaviscus

Malvaviscus are hibiscus relatives in the mallow family native to the US and Central America. Malvaviscus produces fantastic little butterfly-attracting flowers that do not fully open up and are similar in form to an upside down abutilon. The colors are extremely saturated and stand out against the green foliage.

Our malvaviscus selections are all variations of the southern US native Malvaviscus drummondii. This native plant has an incredibly wide tolerance range of growing conditions and thrives from moist to dry soils and from full sun to shade. Malvaviscus plants attract hummingbirds and are highly resistant to deer...perfect! Birds like to eat the red fruits in winter.

Malvaviscus is in the mallow family which includes other popular garden plants. Check out all the mallows here.
