More Information About Lindernia

Money may not grow on trees but it does grow as a herbaceous perennial in the garden...as lindernia, aka "moneywort". The genus Lindernia contains about 100 species worldwide, with most found in Africa, southeast Asia, and America. Lindernia plants are generally small herbaceous perennials and are often associated with moist habitats.

In the wild, lindernia is usually found in marshes, but can tolerate dryer sites in the garden as long as they are watered regularly (no long gaps). Some Lindernia species, such as L. dubia are popular aquarium plants and can live in shallow water. Lindernia flowers are small (even in Lindernia grandiflora) but plentiful and colorful. Try growing lindernia along with other bog plants such as rhexia, pogonia, and sarracenia to create a colorful combination.

Lindernia gets the name "moneywort", not for having round coin-like leaves, but instead for its similar growth habit to Lysimachia (the real moneywort). When you are ready to buy lindernia for your perennial garden, we hope you'll check out our online offering of lindernia for sale.
