This large, vigorous selection of the North American native woodland iris, forms an 8" tall x 2' wide patch. Iris cristata 'Edgar Anderson', which is one of the earliest Iris cristata clones to flower, is topped, starting in early April (NC), with small, light lavender-blue flowers, each with a contrasting white throat and a small darker lavender marking at the base of the beard. Iris cristata 'Edgar Anderson' is named after the late iris researcher and former director of the Missouri Botanic Garden. Iris cristata 'Edgar Anderson' is one of Anderson's original Missouri collections that was later named for Anderson by Irisarian Bob Pries.
