Hosta 'Autumn Frost' is the latest in a long line of fantastic sports from Hosta 'Halcyon'. Hosta 'Autumn Frost' is a probable tetraploid sport of the lovely Hosta 'First Frost', which is a creamy-edged sport of Hosta 'Halcyon'. The 1' tall x 16" wide clump is composed of thick powder blue leaves with an exceptionally wide creamy yellow margin...simply stunning. In late spring, the clump is topped with stalks of light lavender flowers...a hummingbird delight. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
For all those out there with the same nickname, Hosta 'Big Mama' is an oldie-but-goodie from the famed Long Island garden of the late hosta guru, Paul Aden. The Hosta sieboldiana background shows through with the large, puckered, thick blue leaves that adorn the 5' wide clump. The giant clumps of Hosta 'Big Mama' are topped with pure white flowers in early summer on 4' tall scapes...a hummingbird celebration. As with all blue-leaf hostas, the wax fades in the heat of summer leaving the leaves green. Pot Size: 3 qt. (2.83 L)
This new creamy-edged sport of Hosta 'Fragrant Blue' originated at Shady Oaks Nursery and was subsequently named and introduced by Jack and Gary at Washington's Naylor Creek Nursery. The small, 20" wide clump is composed of powder-blue leaves, each surrounded by a 0.25" white border. The attractive clumps of Hosta 'Blue Flame' are topped in midsummer with 16" tall scapes of lightly fragrant lavender flowers. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
Available 6-27-2013 Hosta 'Blue Ivory' is a fantastic sport of the popular Hosta 'Halcyon', discovered by hosta afficionado, Bill Meyer, and introduced with the help of Holland's Luc Klinkhamer. The 16" tall x 30" wide clump is composed of blue leaves, highlighted by a wide creamy border that becomes more white as the season progresses...a slow-growing but truly spectacular clump that, like Hosta 'Liberty', takes time to show its true beauty. If you buy tiny liner-sized plants of Hosta 'Blue Ivory', you'll be very disappointed for a couple of years. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
Hosta 'Blue Jay' is still a much sought-after Herb Benedict introduction, the result of Hosta 'Dorset Blue' having sex with itself...thank goodness that's permitted in the hosta world. The intense, powder-blue, round leaves of Hosta 'Blue Jay' form a tight, 2' wide mound. In late spring, the clump is topped with light lavender flowers...great among other small hostas. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
Cute, cute, cute! This distinctive, new small hosta is the toast of hosta collectors everywhere. Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' is a mutation of Hosta 'Blue Cadet' that makes a tight 1' wide mound of small, round, blue-green leaves on a perfectly symmetrical clump. In early summer, the clumps are topped with proportionally short spikes of lavender flowers...a hummingbird favorite. This is a unique and fun hosta to add to any woodland garden. Pot Size: 3.5" (24 fl. oz/709.77 ml)
This introduction from the late Herb Benedict is another of his famous multi-generational offspring from Hosta 'Dorset Blue'. Hosta 'Blue Sliver' makes a small clump of narrow, wedge-shaped, powder blue leaves. The 15" wide clumps are topped in late spring with 1' tall spikes of lavender flowers. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
(aka Hosta 1995-044) This 2010 PDN introduction originated as a 1995 cross of Hosta 'Fragrant Blue' x Hosta 'Halcyon. We have thoroughly enjoyed the resulting small growing 6" tall x 18" wide compact clump of silver-blue leaves. The clumps are topped with 9" tall spikes of light lavender flowers starting in mid-August...a hummingbird treat. Hosta 'Blueper' has not been tissue cultured, so supplies are very limited. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
I was very impressed when I first saw this white-edged sport of the wonderful Hosta 'Niagra Falls' in 2011, so we are pleased to be able to make it available. The large, green, piecrust-edged clump is surrounded by a stunning white border...we expect the mature size of Hosta 'Bridal Falls' to be between 20" tall x 3-4' wide. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
(Hosta 'King Tut' x Hosta 'Mildred Seaver' seedling) WOW! Few other words can do justice when seeing a mature clump of Hosta 'Brother Stefan'. Named by top hosta breeder, Olga Petryszyn, as a birthday present to her brother, this hosta is quite a gift. Each 3' wide clump of thick, heavily-corrugated, golden foliage is edged with a wide border of blue-green. In late spring, the 2' scapes of white flowers top the clump...a hummingbird prize. Hosta 'Brother Stefan' is truly one of the most spectacular hostas we have ever seen...find out firsthand. Pot Size: 3 qt. (2.83 L)
(aka: H. 99-094) Hosta 'Caesar Salad' is one of our favorite hostas from our breeding program. This cross of Hosta 'Korean Snow', Hosta 'Maekawa', and Hosta 'Elvis Lives' resulted in a 15" tall x 32" wide clump of very wavy, glossy green leaves. Not only is the foliage great, but the clumps are topped in late July with fascinating flower buds, followed by attractive stalks of light lavender flowers in early August. Hosta 'Caesar Salad' weathers brutal summers in great shape...a truly distinctive clump. We have chosen not to tissue culture this introduction. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
This cute sport of Hosta 'Baby Bunting' makes a small 1' wide mound of tiny, grey-green leaves surrounded by a wide, creamy white margin. In late spring, Hosta 'Cameo' is topped with a short 1' tall spike of dark purple flowers. Hosta 'Cameo' is one of the best miniature hostas we have grown. Pot Size: 3.5" (24 fl. oz/709.77 ml)
We are pleased to finally be able to release a fine sport of our 1996 introduction, Hosta 'Potomac Pride'. Hosta 'Capitol Hill' adds a nice chartreuse-yellow border to the corrugated glossy dark green leaves. The 15" tall x 30" wide clumps are topped in June and July with spikes of spider-like lavender hummingbird flowers...we're confident it will have a much higher approval rating than what we've got up there now, so please vote "Yea" for passage into your garden. Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
This amazing sport of the popular Hosta 'Gold Standard' was introduced by Iowa's Kirk Brill...an avid Trekkie. Hosta 'Captain Kirk' is probably a tetraploid hosta featuring a delicious wide golden center, surrounded by a very wide, dark green edge. As you can imagine, the contrast is truly stunning. Each 3' wide clump of Hosta 'Captain Kirk' is topped with lavender flowers in midsummer. Aren't you about ready to boldly grow what none of your neighbors has grown before? Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
Are you ready for another great new hosta that is destined for the Hosta Hall of Fame? This Hans Hansen introduction is an intentional tetraploid mutation of his wonderful Hosta 'Stained Glass'. The large, 9-10" round, dome-shaped, golden leaves are surrounded by a 3" wide, dark green border. The 3' wide clumps are topped in late summer with 40" stalks of very large, very fragrant flowers...a hummingbird party plant. Imagine a super bright version of Hosta 'Holy Mole' and you get the picture. Pot Size: 3 qt. (2.83 L)
Hosta 'Cherish' is another gem in the series of sports from Hosta 'Baby Bunting'. Hosta 'Cherish' makes a miniature 8" wide clump of round blue-green leaves with an attractive creamy-yellow center, surrounded by a wide blue-green border. In midsummer, the tiny clumps are topped with 11" flower spikes topped with lavender flowers. Be sure to grow Hosta 'Cherish' in an open area with moist soil where it will not dry out or be eaten by larger more aggressive plants...cherish it! Pot Size: 3.5" (24 fl. oz/709.77 ml)
This recent introduction from Holland is reportedly a mutation from one of our favorite hostas, Hosta 'Night Before Christmas'. In appearance, it looks similar to "NBC", except the clump is slightly smaller and the leaf edges are a darker green. The most important difference, however, is that the solid white center does not fade all growing season. Hosta 'Christmas Candy' is amazingly sun-tolerant as long as the soil is moist. At maturity, expect a 2' wide clump of bright creamy white leaves surrounded by a dark green border...very dramatic. In midsummer, the clumps are topped with light lavender Hosta 'Fortunei'-type flowers. Pot Size: 3 qt. (2.83 L)
I was very impressed with Hosta 'Dancing Queen' when I first saw it in Hans Hansen's Minnesota garden. The large golden foliage with a nice piecrust edge forms a distinctive 18" tall x 3' wide beacon in the woodland garden. Pot Size: 3 qt. (2.83 L)
This Plant Delights hybrid has a sordid background involving Hosta longissima, 'Swoosh', 'Red Neck Heaven', and 'Elvis Lives'. That strange combination of genes produced a 1' tall x 30" wide clump of long, tapering, undulating blue-green leaves, bordered with stripes of yellow...reminiscent of the rapids in its namesake movie. Hosta 'Deliverance' clumps are topped in early summer with 2' tall scapes of lavender hummingbird-friendly flowers. You'll be so happy, you'll squeal like a pig! Pot Size: 2 qt. (1.892 L)
Named after the late Diana, Princess of Wales, I put this near the top of the "best-ever" list. This vigorous Hosta plantaginea hybrid makes a stunning, 3' wide clump of shiny, blue-green leaves with a very wide, creamy yellow border. In late summer, clumps of Hosta 'Diana Remembered' are topped with 2' tall spikes bearing very fragrant, white flowers...a hummingbird favorite. Plant this one near a path where it can be truly appreciated! Pot Size: 3 qt. (2.83 L)
