Leaves retain their color longer than flowers, and are usually larger than flowers and so their visual impact is much greater. Some plants have leaves whose color is a constant all season long, other plants have leaves that shift color throughout the year, and we are all familiar with plants whose leaves change into brilliant hues in the autumn.
