More Information About Festuca

Festuca is a genus in the grass family with around 450 species distributed around the world. You are probably familiar with festuca as a turf grass for lawns, pastures and playing fields, but there are also many attractive festuca species for the garden. The ornamental festuca species are generally clumpers from 6-18 inches tall. Many ornamental festuca species feature narrow, spiky, blue foliage and/or attractive flowers...blue fescue grass (Festuca glauca, aka Festuca ovina) is an insanely popular garden plant.

Festuca prefers full sun and well-drained soil that does not dry out too much in summer. Some species are sensitive to overwatering and can rot in wet soils. Festuca looks great in a container or rock garden.
