Claytonia (Spring Beauty)
Claytonia is a small genus of 2 dozen or so species of perennial wildflowers named for the colonial American botanist, John Clayton (1693-1773) who botanized Virginia from 1715 to the 1730s. Claytonia is a small, ephemeral, woodland genus with narrow, grass-like leaves and early-blooming, pastel flowers.
