Clematis hirsutissima (Hairy Clematis)

Sun to Part SunZone: 3-7 12" tall Origin: USA

Web-Only! This charming dwarf bush clematis is home on the range from British Columbia south to MN and WY, where it can be found in prairies where the deer and the antelope roam. The tiny 1' tall upright rock garden specimens are clothed in hairy grey cutleaf foliage and topped, starting in early -April (NC) with solitary down turned purple bells...without question one of the cutest native plants in the US. Clematis hirsutissima has been used to treat everything from headaches to sinus pain. With its small size and slow growth rate, the wait for a cure may be worse than socialized health care.
