Hibiscus mutabilis Single Flower (Confederate Rose Mallow)

Sun to Part SunZone: 7b-10 96" tall Origin: China

Web-Only! I had long been after the elusive single-flowered form of the old southern favorite, Hibiscus mutabilis. It took a trip to LA in 1999 before I found the plant growing at an abandoned homestead above Baton Rouge. This amazing mallow emerges from the ground in spring (keeps woody stalks in the Deep South) and grows rapidly to a height of 8' tall. In October, the plants are topped with dozens of 3-4" wide, single flowers that emerge white, then "mutate" to light pink over the next few days. For great fall interest in areas where frost doesn't occur until late October, this is a great addition to the sunny garden. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml)
