Hymenocallis eulae (Spider Lily)

Sun to Part SunZone: 7-10 16" tall Origin: USA

Web-Only! (syn: H. galvestonensis) Despite being one of our truly great easy-to-grow natives, it is amazing how few spider lilies are grown. We would like to add another to the list...the rare TX and LA native, H. eulae. The glaucous strap-like leaves appear in late winter and disappear again in spring. In the midst of summer when you least expect it...usually late August to early September...20" tall scapes appear from nowhere, topped with 6-9 pure white spidery flowers with a delightful sweet aroma. Although often found native in heavy soils near streams, our selection originated in pastureland in Arcadia, TX, where it is was being baled with the hay. Have you ever tried to outrun a Texan on a combine? Yikes! Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml)
