Aristolochia rotunda is one of the European birthwort/Dutchman's pipe species that can be found in open alkaline woodlands and roadsides to 2500' elevation throughout southern Europe. Aristolochia rotunda makes a 2' tall x 2' wide, semi-sprawling, deciduous specimen with rounded green leaves and is adorned in late spring with small, reddish purple, jack-in-the-pulpit-like flowers. Aristolochia rotunda has been used to speed wound healing and also used as a cancer treatment but, like most medicinal plants, it can be deadly if ingested incorrectly.
