Aristolochia macrophylla is one of the excellent, native, deciduous, ornamental vines (Canada south to Alabama) that works well to add a tropical touch to the temperate garden. The giant leaves can reach 1' long when grown in rich soils that don't dry out. The name, Dutchman's pipe, is from the small, brown, pipe-shaped flowers that hide beneath the foliage in late spring. This offering is grown from seed shared with us from around 4,500' near Chimney Tops, Tennessee.
