Agave striata ssp. falcata resembles typical Agave striata with long, slightly curved, knitting needle-like leaves. It differs from the typical species by having longer but fewer leaves. We have grown Agave striata ssp. falcata for over two decades including two 0 degree F winters without any damage. The long, round, pencil-sized green leaves arch outward to 20" from the center to form an impalingly perfect 40" wide rosette. Our plant of Agave striata ssp. falcata has flowered twice (a 7' stalk of tiny white flowers), and our plants are grown from this seed. Agave striata ssp. falcata is unusual in that it offsets from the old division both before and after flowering, but doesn't spread via underground suckers. A row of Agave striata around the vegetable garden should work wonders to keep pesky creatures at bay.
